Luxury Home Spa: Decadent Therapeutic Baths and Steam Showers

Imagine, close your eyes… If the sky was the limit for your home spa, what would your dream tub or steam shower do for you?

When thinking about the word “decadent”… What comes to mind? If we were talking about dessert, the reference would be the epitome of flavor and texture gratification.

The dictionary definition of decadence is “characterized by or appealing to self-indulgence – excessive or unrestrained gratification of one’s own appetites, desires or whims.”

I would like to heighten your senses and show you what is possible in Alberta for luxury baths and steam showers that you can have in the custom home that you build with us.

Cutting-Edge Therapeutic Baths for Ultimate Relaxation

BainUltra is a cutting-edge leading company when it comes to therapeutic baths. Below are a few models and supreme options that are available to you:

Get a hydro-thermo massage from BainUltra’s ThermoMasseur Ultra. The ThermoMasseur Ultra is much more than bathtub. It creates an effective, even massage experience with its jets and warmth. It uses “Geysair” technology to reheat and humidify the air jets to maintain consistently warm water temperatures.

“When water, warmth and air are combined, they create a hydro-thermo massage – an energizing massage for the body” – BainUltra

“The therapy air jets produce vigorously bubbling water that deliver an acupressure effect. The massage encourages a feel-good physiological chain reaction from head to toe, reducing stress, relaxing muscles and eliminating toxins.” – BainUltra

BainUltra also offers a superior drainage system to ensure there are no stagnant water or hygiene issues.

The therapeutic ThermaSens bath delivers three sensory experiences: Aromatherapy, chromatherapy, and thermotherapy.

1. Aromatherapy

The ThermaSens tub uses an AromaCloud diffuser that is seamlessly integrated into the bath deck. The diffuser releases a delicate mist of essential oils that are quickly absorbed through the skin and respiratory system. For a relaxing or calming session, use lavender, patchouli, or sandalwood oil.

For a pick-me-up, try peppermint, clove, or cinnamon.

1 – 2 drops of essential oil are enough for a 30 minute session.

2. Chromatherapy

A light-up bathtub isn’t just fun to look at. The ThermaSens uses an LED lighting system in six colours to help you achieve balance and harmony.

“Color can have a transformative effect on the human body, directly affecting your physical and psychological states. Chromatherapy is a scientifically proven phenomenon, not merely a decorative trend. The vibrations emanating from colors can have a calming, energizing, or centring effect, making chromatherapy a potent tool for achieving equilibrium and harmony” – BainUltra.

Ideal sessions are 15 – 20 minutes. Watch the video to learn more about chromatherapy.

3. Thermotherapy

There are three heating zones available in your ThermaSens tub: the headrest, backrest, and seat. The heat increases the flow of oxygen and nutrients through your blood. Each area will warm up to a relaxing 38.5 degrees Celsius within four minutes.

30 minute sessions are suggested.

They also offer a line of complementary products:

  • Leg rest
  • Bath pillow
  • Comfort cushion
  • Relaxation chair and foot rest (to continue your relaxing once your soak time is complete)

The Theraputic Care Unit: Verdana

Another steam shower system for your home spa is the Therapeutic Care Unit, Vedana from BainUltra.

“This product, which is unique to BainUltra, was designed to help users experience guided meditation that involves all the senses and promotes a change in their physical and emotional state.” – BainUltra

This innovative alternative therapy creates sensory experiences. Here are the five different types of therapy you will experience with the Verdana:

1. Dry Thermal Therapy: This involves using low humidity dry heat to improve blood flow, eliminate toxins, and revive skin.

2. Chromatherapy: A treatment that uses the affect of color on the body to bring about changes (see Chromatherapy description under “ThermaSens”).

[Tweet “A relaxing soak in @BainUltra’s Bathtub Verdana = the best way to unwind. #aromatherapy #bath”]

3. Light Therapy: Light can have an energizing effect on the body. The Verdana uses lights to help regulate your body’s circadian rhythm to improve sleep, increase your ability to concentrate, improve mood, and reduce the effects of jet lag.

4. Aromatherapy: The Vedana uses a delicate mist of essential oils to reduce stress and anxiety, which bolsters the immune system and improves mood.

5. Sound therapy: With the Verdana shower system, you’ll experience music therapy. It “uses music (with various wavelengths and frequencies) to re-establish physical and emotional equilibrium.” The benefits of music therapy are reduced stress and help with stabilizing mood swings.

That’s not where the options end…

The Vedana also offers “four guided and specially calibrated experiences designed to bring out an altered state.”

1. Freedom – Tune out and empty your mind.

2. Harmony – Find your center, your balance, your harmony.

3. Wonder – Open up to the extraordinary wonders of the world.

4. Love – Meditate on gratitude and love.

2017 Top 10 Luxury Home Trends

The 2017 Trends for Home Style and Interior Design

What can you expect for home trends this year? After researching some of the top Designer Sites, here is the shortlist of Top 10 Trends for 2017 …

1. 2017 Pantone Color of the Year

Ready for it… Pantone 15-0343 “Greenery”

According to Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director at the Pantone Color Institute the color represents:

• Refreshment

• Rejuvenation

• Rebirth

“We love that feeling of newness, a realigning of yourself and revitalizing yourself. A really important aspect is that the color has vibrancy and a little bit of brightness”.

2. Butterflies

Elle Décor Magazine has said to expect to see butterflies, a happy motif which symbolizes both grace and optimism – it’s no longer just for children.

You can expect to see the butterfly motif in items such as wallpaper.

3. Mixed Patterns

Most trends first spin off the fashion industry – this trend was first seen in the New York fashion week and has made it into the world of interior design.

Tip: A quick way to pick up on this trend is to change your existing duvet cover or comforter to a bold mix of colors and patterns – Let it be the show-stopper in your bedroom!

4. Faux Finishes

Another trend listed by Elle Décor Magazine:

Faux finishes are an alternative to its more expensive counterpart and are getting popular.

[Tweet “Faux materials help rein in the budget but are also a reliable alternative #yegdesign #yeghomes #shpk”]

Here are a few products to try:

• Faux wood products such as plank tile used as a durable floor alternative to hardwood flooring. It requires less maintenance and is pet friendly.

• Engineered Quartz is available in faux marble patterns, the added benefit is instead of soft marble it will withstand heat and staining.

Expect other faux trends such as: leather countertops and marble wallpaper.

5. Move Over Black – Navy is Back

A modern twist for 2017 is using navy where the previous “go to” was black. Navy works with most color schemes and will give your space a modern, fresh feel.

Imagine how stunning a navy island would look with warm brushed gold fixtures and wide plank flooring. It would be the statement piece in your luxurious kitchen.

6. Move Over DIY… We are Looking for a Higher Quality Items

With the explosion of Pinterest, the DIY scene has been off the chart. A new trend towards professionally crafted items is on the rise.

High-level, skilled workmanship items such as hand blown glass and fine wood pieces, to name a few.

7. Matte White Pottery

The trend for high-level, skilled, crafted items mentioned in trend #6 will lend itself to the rise of Matte White pottery such as vases, bowls, etc.

These items are warmer than the previous glossy white accessories as they add an organic and textural element to the space.

8. Chunky Knit

This popular heavy knit is showing up in throw blankets, toss pillows and bed covers.

Chunky knit adds a textural quality to a space and will keep us warm until the landscape in Edmonton has shifted from white to green.

9. Shiplap Carries On… Or Does It?

A have had mixed articles written both “pro” and “con” shiplap.

House Beautiful Magazine stated the “Fixer Upper” inspired farmhouse look will carry on for 2017. Joanna Gaines has shown how country-chic can work by using little or a lot of shiplap.

On the contrary Kayla, Managing Editor HGTV said, “I’m tired of shiplap and the whole cottage-inspired, farmhouse-chic look. There. I said it. I like when Joanna Gaines does it because it’s her signature look. But if you have a “Fresh Baked Pies Here” faux vintage sign, then I expect there to be real pies in your kitchen.”

10. Texture

A soft velvet sofa, faux fur, luxurious fabrics… Sounds nice, doesn’t it? Texture gives us comfort and wraps us in warmth after a long day.

One way we connect with our surroundings is by touch. We feel drawn to fabrics that entice our senses, so it makes sense that we want our homes to be full of luxurious textures.

For 2017, choose a trend that speaks to you, works with what you already have, and will add some needed update to your current surroundings.

Happy shopping!

Willingness to Change – Listening to that Inner Voice

If you want something different, you must be WILLING to do something you’ve never done.
Thomas Jefferson

How many times do we see someone doing something out of their comfort zone and think, I wish I could do that? Well you know what, you can! We are our own worst critic. What makes that person any different than you? Just the willingness to change.

My Journey of Change

My own personal growth happened gradually. I have always been affected by my environment…lighting, color, space, comfort. For me, adjusting my surroundings to suit my needs was a natural progression. It started with little things like changing the paint color in a room to give it character or warmth. Then I changed the color scheme of our entire house.

Next, I started playing with lighting – I enjoy many levels of lighting; a balance between task, ambient, and overall lighting. This was long before the HGTV craze.

Listening to that Creative Voice Inside

Something inside me wanted more. I could feel the pull to go back to school, but thought, “How could I do this? I am too busy!” We had a 1-year-old, I was working three days a week, and we were starting a business. Was I crazy? Well, a little maybe. It was the most fulfilling and stressful time of my life, but,  if given the opportunity, I would do it all over again. It showed me what I am made of and was the push we needed to start Canterbury Homes Inc (a custom luxury home builder headquartered in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada).

CH Logo

I was willing to take a chance. I listened to that voice inside me saying that I deserved to venture out and see where my curiosity would take me. I made a commitment to go back to school and went for it. We often drown out that voice because we put others first. What if we could tip the scales and remember that we also need to be on the list of priorities? I encourage you, don’t hold back, be all that you can be… Those around you will also be motivated by your growth.

The Value of a Good Nights’ Sleep: How to be the Best You!

What is the best way to set yourself up for a productive, happy, and clear-minded day?  The answer is simple: a good night’s sleep.

You turn in for the night and head to bed.  You have done all the right things: you have shut off all electronic devices earlier in the evening, you have gone through your bed time routine such as changing into sleep wear, brushing your teeth, etc. and are now prepared for a peaceful slumber.  As you approach your bed you are quickly reminded of all the things you have to do tomorrow or things you haven’t had a chance to finish… Why?  Your night stand is cluttered; stacked with books, papers, and other chaotic reminders of what you need to do tomorrow.

Sound familiar?  It may seem silly that a piece of furniture that is cluttered can keep you from a good rest, but it can.  What should your nightstand really be used for?  Yes, it is to store some items, however these items need to be conducive to sleeping.  Have a look at the image below of our most recent showhome where we have pared down the nightstands to invite you to relax in this space.

The Manor – Master Bedroom – A peaceful, light filled space with direct access to enjoy your first cup of coffee on the deck. A charcoal grey barn door leads you to a spacious walk in closet including a built in custom dresser.

Here are a few quick tips for tackling your cluttered nightstand:

  1. Instead of keeping a stack of books on your nightstand, pare it down to only the one book you are currently reading. If you have five books going at once, perhaps the “How to be a Better…” would be a more productive read during the day when you are alert instead of when you actually need to shut down your thoughts.
  2. photo that brings you happy thoughts. The image below is of my nightstand. I chose a picture of my boys giving each other a goofy look – it always makes me smile.
  3. The last item is a lamp for purposeful lighting. Basically, just keep it to bedtime essentials.  All other items need to be tucked away allowing for a clutter-free sleep zone.

night table

If you need more storage, maybe it’s time to reassess the nightstand you currently have. Instead of the one-drawer unit you currently own, maybe you need a nightstand with more drawers that will allow you to keep items out of sight so you can take back your sleepy haven.

When you reorganize or de-clutter, ask yourself, are all the items on your nightstand meant for the bedroom? Perhaps certain items will be better utilized in your office or elsewhere in your home where you are in a more attentive head space.  It’s a win/win situation.

Whichever you decide, the most important message is this…we are more productive, better problem solvers and more creative when we have had enough quality sleep.  Give yourself and the people around you the gift of a better you. You won’t regret it.  Sleep tight!
