Are you in search of the perfect neighborhood to build your dream home in? For many of our clients looking for an ideal location, Sherwood Park checks a lot of their boxes. Balmoral Heights is one of the most sought-after areas in Sherwood Park, and there are a lot of reasons to make this estate community your home.

Live Luxuriously in Balmoral Heights

We spend 90% of our time with a roof over our head. Choosing the right location to build isn’t a decision to take lightly. Balmoral Heights is an elegant community, on the south side of Sherwood Park. After coming through its stately entrance, you’ll see paths lining the landscaped streets where residents walk their dogs and jog with their neighbors.

Each home on its third or half acre lot is as beautiful as the next. You’ll see kids playing basketball on oversize driveways while their parents watch from their front steps. It’s a friendly neighborhood where people know their neighbors and feel safe going for a moonlit stroll.

Balmoral is its own elegant oasis. If you haven’t already, drive down and take a look. You’ll see that there’s something special about it.

Location, Location, Location!

Sherwood Park is growing; you can get just about anywhere from Balmoral Heights in less than 15 minutes. Being on the southwest end of Sherwood Park makes it a great location for commuters. You can easily get on the Whitemud, the Anthony Henday or Yellowhead without much driving.

You don’t need to go into Edmonton for groceries, shopping, recreation, or restaurants. It’s all just a few minutes from your door if you live in Balmoral Heights.

Shopping

The Sherwood Park Mall has changed over the years and it’s now a modern, trendy hub of town. You can grab a Starbucks drink in Chapters, get your nails done, and shop for a new outfit in the mall’s popular stores. (Click here for a full list of stores in the mall.) In addition to the mall, boutiques, and outlet stores, there are specialty shops for everything in Sherwood Park.

Groceries

All the major grocery stores are nearby, and there are a lot of farmers’ markets to take advantage of.

The two year-round farmers’ markets are the Sherwood Park Farmers’ Market in the new library building and the Salisbury Farmers’ Market at the greenhouse. A few other ones pop up in the summertime, so check the Strathcona County Farmers’ Market page for details.

Recreation

With a home in Balmoral Heights, you don’t have to go far to have fun! True to its name, there are plenty of parks to enjoy in The Park. There’s a spray park in Broadmoor Park, a dog park just off Wye Road, and approximately 80 other parks of all kinds. You can see the full list with details about each one here.

For keeping active after school or work, there are plenty of places close by. Millennium Place, the newly renovated Glen Allen Rec Centre, arenas, karate schools, dance schools, music schools, yoga studios (Moksha and Yoga For Today), and venues hosting Paint Nite.

You’ll find that Sherwood Park has a strong community feel. People at the gym will become familiar, parents cheer on their kids from the sidelines together, and if you ever need a boost in the parking lot, you’ll have no trouble getting one.

Schools in the Area

Unless there are special preferences, Children who live in Balmoral Heights go to Westboro Elementary or Pine Street Elementary. Junior high students attend Sherwood Heights Junior High and then on to high school at Salisbury Composite. There are also options for Catholic schools.

For families with French immersion students, a handful of Sherwood Park schools offer French immersion programs. Getting the kids to school is easy from Balmoral, since school buses come right near your house to pick them up.

Restaurants

In a bedroom community where people don’t like to go far to get the things they need, finding a delicious, local restaurant is easy. Here are our top picks for Casual and Eat-in restaurants:

Casual

Common Ground Community Cafe: This cafe is cute and casual with local art on display and charming mix and matched chairs and tables. The fact that it’s volunteer run is what sets it apart from the usual places.

Social Grounds Coffeehouse (SGC): SGC is Sherwood Park’s only “boutique” coffeehouse. Stop in and order their organic, fair trade coffee with one of their handmade scones or muffins.

Cafe Haven: Support local coffee roasters when you visit Cafe Haven. Their coffee is roasted in Edmonton at Transcend. They offer locally sourced ham and chicken, and they have tasty vegan options too.

Eat-in

Branches: A little oasis exists in the Greenland Greenhouse. Visit the greenhouse, then stroll through their indoor garden and then check out their restaurant, Branches. For date nite, an evening of live music, or a fresh lunch, Branches is an excellent choice.

The Local: The Local gives you a casual dining experience. The food is tasty, and they have shuffleboards for when you want to play games. Try the Pimms & Ginger cocktail.

Browns Social House: Browns is all about relaxing and having a great time. Go there for delicious food and a friendly atmosphere.

Earl’s: A Sherwood Park Classic that deserves a mention. It’s a solid choice for celebrations, date nights, or just an evening out with the family.

Vicky’s: They have local, humble beginnings, and have become a very nice, high-end restaurant.  The owners are the nicest people you will ever meet.

Joey Sherwood: It’s gone through menu and location changes over the years, but it’s still one of our favourites.
